James Murphy - Senior Professional Member

About Us

James H. Murphy is a finance industry professional who has taught Finance at universities in Vietnam since his arrival to Ho Chi Minh City in 2001. Capital Budgeting and Wealth Management are Mr. Murphy’s areas of interest.

Prior to his arrival to Vietnam, Mr. Murphy’s career in finance included employment as an investment banker and as a compliance auditor at several leading residential lenders. Mr. Murphy has also owned and operated a bituminous coal shipping company.

Mr. James Hugh Murphy

James H. (Jim) Murphy is a Senior Professional member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam and has lived in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, since 2001.

Jim has spent the past 50 years employed in various capacities in the finance industry, including investment banking as an NYSE-licensed stockbroker, residential lending auditor, and Finance lecturer at universities. He enjoyed a long association with RMIT International University—Vietnam, where he was a Lecturer of Finance and Accounting until 2020.

Following his retirement from lecturing at RMIT International University - Vietnam, Jim founded Stoic Vietnam Financial Consulting Company, Ltd., providing guidance and education to non-financial business people and individuals to help them make prudent and profitable decisions regarding their business and personal finances.
