About Us
Jon Formella is a Blakemore Freeman Fellow for Advanced Vietnamese Studies based in Hanoi and a member of the London School of Economics Southeast Asia Early Career Researcher Network. Prior to arriving in Vietnam, Jon completed research on global supply chains and labor compliance for the German Marshall Fund of the United States and served as a project consultant exploring South Korean investment in Vietnam for the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Jon graduated with distinction from Columbia University and London School of Economics with a dual MA/MSc in International and World History after completing a thesis on Cold War Sino-Vietnamese relations. He also spent two years in Taiwan through the Fulbright Program and studying Mandarin through the International Chinese Language Program. Jon also works as a translator for Chinese academic journal and enjoys using Vietnamese and Chinese language sources to explore international perspectives on commerce, international law, and foreign policy in the Indo-Pacific Region.
